About the Event

WHAT TO EXPECT

This online event will offer perspectives on the comprehensive effects of climate change and environmental toxins on health for locally and globally will be presented.  Environmental justice/injustice will also be a focus. Organizations and research projects supporting policies and actions needed will be identified. Tangible steps and actions needed will be identified.

This event will be hosted in partnership with the Minnesota Holistic Medicine Group.

TOPICS/PRESENTERS

Presenter 9:15 am - 10:15 am

· Karen Clark, MPH, RN:  Environmental injustice and research on the cumulative negative health impact on one Minneapolis inner city neighborhood and opportunities for engagement

Presenter 10:30 am - 11:30 am

· Teddie Potter, PhD, RN, FAAN, FNAP: discussing the emerging transdisciplinary field of Plantary Health and the importance of health professionals to take action.

LEARNER OUTCOMES

Participants will be able to:

1.Describe three or more ways that humans are disrupting the Earth’s natural systems and threatening planetary boundaries.

2.Make a link between human caused disruptions of the Earth’s natural systems and impacts on human health.

3.Describe three ways that health professionals can take action to decrease harm and promote planetary health.

4.Gain an understanding of what environmental justice is theoretically and practically

5.Describe a local example of how environmental injustice negative health impact is being documented in research through GIS mapping

6.Consider possible civic actions to take regarding a local project experiencing environmental injustice right now.
